Germany tour, biggest even of the season, is coming. 3 days before the first stage Zack Davie, who will be captain of Bywater CT during this race, gave an interview.
Q: Zack, how was the season so far?
Z: Really successful. During first half I was training a lot, but still had some time for racing. Volta ao Porto was a great experience, being part of a successful team is fun even when you're only helping other riders. Then, during Perm Tour, I was the captain for the first time, my results were quite good, but still I failed to win youth classification.
Q: During second half of the season you are full-time captain.
Z: Yes, I really appreciate the trust team's management has in me, this was especially helpful when for some time my results were worse than expected. Previous week was really good, 5th and 7th place gave the team points it needed. Then, as we were sure riding Germany Tour, I got time to rest and prepare for it.
Q: How did it go?
Z: Perfectly. I feel great now, I had good rest and my form went up to the level where it has never been before. I spent this time on Sicilia, I really like this place, it's good to get in shape. I will finish my stay there with a short practice ride Sunday morning and then I go to Germany.
Q: What are team's plans for the tour?
Z: Plans went a bit wrong, as medical checkup for this race was really early, so we have to go without Herman Eagles, who's just back from injury. This means we have two leaders. Climbing stages are where I will try to gain as much time as possible, while Karsten Steels will seek his chance on flat roads. To support us, we have cimbers Heath Deckard and Koos Zijlstra, hills specialist Bazil Nesu and young, talented Hector Edinho, who will get much needed experience during this race. Personally, I aim at winning the youth classification, I hope that better form than I had in Perm will allow me to do this. Unfortunately Lloyd Vonk, winner of Perm YC, will not ride Germany due to some legal issues during race signup process, I would really like to prove than I can win against him. Still, Vitaliy Bayer, Domenico de Assis and several other riders will be tough opponents.
Q: Is the team focused entirely on Germany?
Z: Of course not. We plan to do some one day races nuring next week as well. We start tomorrow, with Andorra Redonda, Heath Deckard gets his first chance to be team captain there, seems his chances are good as many best climbers take a rest before racing in Germany. Herman Eagles, after missing the tour, will do some other races - Ulm - Augsburg and either GP Stavanger or Lubeck - Hannower. Karsten Steels will try to get into top 9 of Sicilia Rotondo, the race half of the team will use as practise race to get best form for Germany. Finally, a week from now, I will ride Criterium La Provence - my first classic.
Q: Seems that Bywater CT fans will see a lot of action during next week, good luck in all those races.

Well, Bayer took the advantage on stage 4. But Davie got some of it back.
Could be all about the Timetrial, though my guess would be neither of them make the top 20.
I entered Bayer for the race yesterday so he lost 12 DP. That could make the difference.
Tx. I'll see if I get time over the weekend to post it. Not definite I will.
I actually didn't see Davie hadn't been to the TT centre. I guess that makes Bayer slight favourite though you'll have the full squad behind Davie. Davie also has similar TQ and FR to Bayer so might be worth tt centre. See how Bayer does.
If you think it's good enough, feel free to put it there, more publicity is always good ;)
I think TT will decide a lot - if Bayer can get into top 20 there he will make up a lot of time on Davie. I decided not to send Davie to TT centre - 85k is a lot of money and due to not very high TQ and FR his chances for top 20 finish would be small anyway.
Nice article! Might be nice for the front page in a couple of days in preparation for Germany.
I see Davie has just hit top form. Bayer will hit top form on Saturday. Will be a close competition. Bayer will only ride as VC for Drejbo, so I put Davie as favourite for White.
Good luck!
